Vijayakumar was a 2009 batch IPS officer. Earlier, he served as superintendent of police in Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts.
He asked his personal security officer (PSO) to hand over his pistol, and he came out of the office with it. He shot himself dead around 6.50am.
Other cops, who were on duty at the camp office, informed senior police officers who reached the spot.
Sources said that Vijayakumar told his fellow officers that he had not been able to sleep properly for a few weeks and was under severe depression. But the reason for the suicide was yet to be known, police said.
Senior IPS officer C. Vijayakumar on Friday took charge as the new deputy inspector general (DIG) of police, Coimbatore range. He succeeds MS Muthusamy, who was transferred and posted as the DIG, Vellore range, earlier this week.
Coimbatore range comprises Coimbatore rural, Tirupur rural, the Nilgiris and Erode districts. Vijayakumar said the public can approach police at any time and swift action would be taken to address their grievances.

MS Dhoni Birthday: In his 15-year-long career, Dhoni has led India to several trophy-winning campaigns, creating an unparalleled legacy in the history of the game

On his 42nd birthday, Dhoni is being enthusiastically celebrated by fans nationwide.
MS Dhoni led the Indian cricket team to World Cup glory in 2007. Dhoni, with his calm composure and shrewd captaincy, lifted the much-coveted trophy in the very first edition of the T20 World Cup. Facing Pakistan in the final, Dhoni’s men produced an epic performance to prevail over their arch-rivals.
His leadership prowess propelled India to victory in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, making him the first and only captain to triumph in the Champions Trophy, ICC T20 World Cup (2007), and ICC ODI World Cup (2011).
After taking over the team's reigns in 2007, the Dhoni-led Indian team became the world No. 1 Test team for the first time in 2009.
The Government of India has awarded Dhoni the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2007), the Padma Shri (2009) and the Padma Bhushan (2018) for this contribution to sport. He was also named the ICC ODI Player of the Year for two consecutive years (2008 and 2009).
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (L) hits a six to win against Sri Lanka as teammate Yuvraj Singh reacts during the Cricket World Cup 2011 final at The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 2, 2011. India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets.
That will remain in this writer’s memory for a lifetime. One of the fastest runners between the wicket being run out in the 2019 World Cup was shattering. Who knew that the iconic journey of India’s extremely, if not most, impactful cricketer has come full circle? He was leaving the field in India Blues one last time. Many believed that if the pandemic would not have happened, Mahi would have played another T20 World Cup.
His departure from Indian international cricket was discussed at homes, in groups outdoors, on street corners, in cricket academies, and in offices. The media coverage was unprecedented. For billions of cricket lovers, MS Dhoni was an emotion, a phenomenon – and he continues to be so.
Dhoni stepped down as Test captain during India's tour of Australia in 2014 after playing his 90th Test and then gave up the T20I and ODI captaincy in January 2017. He still has the most wins by an India captain in both the white-ball formats.
Famously called 'Thala' by his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans, Dhoni has led the IPL franchise ever since the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008. CSK have won five IPL titles under his captaincy.

Is phd compulsory for assistant professor from 2024 | can i do phd while working as assistant professor in india,?

The decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to set aside PhD and make the National Eligibility Test (NET), State Eligibility Test (SET) and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) as the minimum eligibility criteria for direct recruitment of assistant professors has drawn mixed reactions from PhDs, professors, and aspirants. Some researchers demanded to make PhD mandatory too while many candidates came up with doubts in the gazette notification. The commission made the amendments in the “Minimum qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other academic staff in Universities and colleges and other measures for maintenance of standards in higher education regulations 2018”. The revised regulations have come into effect from July 1, 2023, UGC added.

Meanwhile, UGC has clarified that PhD degree holders are eligible for the posts. The commission explained that it has only amended the general condition of PhD being mandatory for the direct recruitment of assistant professors. While NET, SLET, SET are the criteria for those who have a master’s degree, PhD degree holders are exempted from these exams for the appointment of the post.

PhD not mandatory for appointment of assistant professors, says new UGC notice: What it means

Candidates for the post of assistant professor in universities and colleges are no longer required to hold PhDs.

Candidates for the post of assistant professor in universities and colleges are no longer required to hold PhDs in order to be eligible for the entry-level position, as per a fresh order by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The big point: In a reversal of its earlier decision, the UGC has announced that exams such as the National Eligibility Test (NET), State Eligibility Test (SET), and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) will be the requisite criteria for appointment to the post of assistant professor in all universities and colleges.

The details: In a notification issued on June 30,  the UGC said, NET/SET/SLET shall be the minimum criteria for the direct recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor for all Higher Education Institutions.” UGC chairperson Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar further clarified, “Ph.D. qualification for appointment as an Assistant Professor would be optional from 01 July 2023.”

But, but: A notice issued by the UGC noted that depending on the discipline, institutions can decide upon shortlisting criteria above the minimum specified by the UGC. Further, a PhD is still mandatory to rise to the post of associate professor.
